Social media content scheduling software; do you use it?
HootSuite is a convenient social media tool, used to scheduled posts in advance so you don't even need to be online at that specific time. Sounds amazing right? Yes and no. Although we dabble in HootSuite's scheduling wonders for our company and clients, we draw the line when it comes to automating all content.
Scheduling programs like this can turn social media into a broadcasting outlet, which it simply is not. Social media is well, social, you need to actually interact with your audience not just share a link or a photo. Use HootSuite in conjunction with engaging your follower's with a variety of mentions, likes, retweets and comments. Here's the good and the bad about using HootSuite in your social strategy;
The Suite Side
Saves time publishing content to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn
All your social media streams are in one web-based location
You can map your content strategy out week by week
Efficient way for your social media team to collaborate on updates
Easy to edit and delete future posts
The Not So Suite
You're out of the loop. Automating all your content will have you talking about yesterday's news, missing opportunities to be a thought leader.
Life moves fast and your scheduled post could become irrelevant and you didn't even know i.e. the Radiohead concert tweet fiasco
People know you are using HootSuite as you have to use the ow.ly URL provided
You don't get any of the analytical goodness without upgrading to the pay version.
Posts can look messy or not include an image preview
This scheduling tool will save your company time and adds consistency to content being published but don't go overboard. Put the social back into social media by engaging in relevant conservations about the latest industry news, all in real-time, that's a feature HootSuite can't match.
